I went to the temple in the town of Haga on the morning of 17 June because I was told that Northern Boobook could be seen there. I quickly found a sleeping Northern Boobook on a large tree in the temple grounds.

Birdwatching in Shiga Kogen (June 2-4, 2024)
In June, the Shiga Kogen plateau was very beautiful with fresh greenery. Unfortunately the weather was cloudy and rainy, but we were able to observe birds we had never seen before in Shiga Kogen, such as White-backed Woodpecker and Eurasian Treecreeper.

Birdwatching in Numappara (May 27, 2024)
Numappara Marsh is about 1,300 m above sea level, close to the border with Fukushima Prefecture. Unfortunately, due to the weather, I had to leave after a short time, but there is an extensive beech forest and many small song birds are likely to be seen.
