Due to strong Siberian high pressure, temperature was quite low for December while strong wind made us feel cold. Although I had heard Siberian (White-winged or Velvet) Scoter hadn't found in the last four days, Luckily we were able to see it within 20 meter. In addition to the duck, a male Long-tailed Duck (very rare in Tokyo Bay), a female Lesser Scaup were also seen well. A female Lesser Scaup is nearly identical from female Greater Scaup. The black tip on the beak is narrower and smaller while the head shape reminds Ferruginous Duck, Tufted Duck and Ring-necked Duck rather than Greater Scaup and Common Pochard.
In Emperor's Palace, I briefly walked from Sakurada-mon Gate to Wadakura Gate. Falcated Ducks are well seen near Sakurada-mon Gate, Somehow, Gadwall becomes as the most common duck in the channels.
Bird List of the day is as below.
Little Grebe, Great Crested Grebe, Slavonian Grebe 1, Black-necked Grebe, Eurasian Wigeon, Falcated Duck, Gadwall, Common Teal, Northern Shovelor, Tufted Duck, Common Pochard, Greater Scaup, Lesser Scaup (female) 1, Siberian Scoter 1 (male), Red-breasted Meganser 2 (female), Dunlin, Oriental Turtle Dove, Northern Goshawk, Black Kite, White Wagtail, Daurian Redstart
