Birdwatching in Bhutan August 2011 1

Due to monsoon, I mainly spent in the morning for birdwatching in my 3rd visit to Bhutan, 11-25 August, 2011.  Generally, birds are silent and less active comparing to my previous visit in May.  So, even common species, such as White-collared Blackbird, was not seen this time.

Many juvenile birds were seen.  Bay Woodpecker, Grey-backed Shrike, Verditer Flycatcher, Plumbeous Water Redstart, Grey-bellied Tesia and White-throated Laughingthrush were seen together with the young birds.

Between 20 and 21 August, I asked Mr. Tshering Puntsho, a local guide, who often works with Yangphel Travel as a birdwatching guide, to go birding together.  We visited Dochu La / Royal Botanic Garden and Tashithang area.  Although not so many birds were seen, we were able to pick up some good birds, such as White-bellied Heron, Ibisbill, Bay Woodpecker, Rufous-bellied Woodpecker, Grey-bellied Tesia and Yellow-vented Warbler.
